Fast image stacking with focus tunable
lenses

The trend in biomedical imaging towards
imaging of 3D cell cultures, whole embryos and in-vivo imaging in living
animals requires a solution for fast 3D imaging. Optotune’s focus tunable
lens is a proven alternative to expensive piezo-actuators and slow stepper
motors for the application of 3D image stacking. The new EL-16-40-TC lens is
ideally suited for widefield-, 2-photon- and confocal microscopy since it is
compatible with large back aperture microscope objectives. Certain optical
configurations allow to keep magnification constant during the z-scan.
