Inline inspection in laser processing
Fast visual inspection is a key part of a laser processing system and it is used to ensure high quality and throughput. An inline inspection camera can provide high resolution of a few micrometers - but only if well focused. Optotune’s liquid lenses are ideal for adding fast and reliable focusing over a large working distance range.
In addition to automatic focusing for inspection, it is beneficial to know the object distance to quickly focus the laser spot on the right marking plane. Based on a depth from focus (DFF) contrast algorithm, it is possible to reliably measure the distance to the target object and subsequently adjust the focal length of the laser system in less than a second.
Fully applied liquid lens technology allows for complete automation of the whole marking process including components positioning (in X, Y & Z), focusing of the laser and quality control of the processed parts, before, during and after marking.
Sill Optics 150 & 300 mm lenses
Optotune and Sill Optics have co-developed two new optimized integrated focusing solutions with very long focal lengths to support in line inspection. The combination of the 300 mm lens and a 160 mm f-theta lens provide the following results:
