Large volume 3D laser processing with
focus tunable lenses
Traditionally,
the field curvature of 2D laser scanners is flattened by using F-theta
lenses. This approach reduces the size of the scan area and requires the
object to be at a fixed distance from the scan head. Instead, Optotune's
electrically focus tunable lens can be used to control the z-position of
the laser spot, allowing field flattening at higher resolution and marking
in true 3D. Furthermore, the system becomes more compact, reliable and less
expensive. Visit us at Photonics West where we will demonstrate our compact
3D scan module.
The electrically tunable lens
EL-10-30-C is useful for wide angle inspection cameras, but also for
microscopes and high magnification inspection. When high magnification is
required, the tunable lens is typically placed between an infinity corrected
objective lens and a tube lens.
Examples of achievable scan
ranges:
- 5x magnification: 16mm z-range
at 4um step size
- 10x magnification: 4mm z-range
at 1um step size
- 40x magnification: 200um
z-range at 0.05um step size
When hard glass and plastic components reach their limits,
elastic polymer-based materials might be your solution! As a pioneer in
adaptive optics, Optotune offers a range of tunable optical devices that
help you add versatility, compactness and fast response to your optical
systems.
